Welcome to Reception class
Mrs Copeland and Mrs McCarthy are our reception class teachers.
Mrs Fullam is their teaching assistant.
In our reception class we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage. The teaching and learning takes place through a balance of play based, child initiated and adult led activities. The child’s interests are used as a starting point and topics are then planned to develop and extend the children’s learning. Examples of previous topics we have covered;
- What's at the bottom of the garden?
- Magical music
- Myself and our school
- Farmyard fun
- Julia's world
Their understanding and achievements are recorded in an individual learning journey, which may include photographs, observations and samples of work, both independent and teacher led. We actively encourage parents to contribute to these journals and provide opportunities throughout the year for children to share their work.
We acknowledge the involvement of parents in their child’s learning and we are always available to discuss any issues at the start and end of the school day. Our weekly newsletters provided detailed information about what we have been covering and how you can help and support at home.
We use the Jolly Phonics scheme for the teaching of early letters and sounds which then leads on to the reading scheme, Oxford Reading Tree.
